Whirlwind Wisdom

"Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said.... Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding" (Job 38:1-4). "This God is our God forever and ever: He will be our Guide even unto death" (Psalm 48:14). "As for the upright, He directeth his way. There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD" (Proverbs 21:29,30).

Out of the wind spoke the Lord of creation,
And answered His servant, demanding:
Where were you, Job, when I laid earth's foundation?
Declare, if you have understanding!

The Lord heard the words that were said on that day
Before His own voice was injected.
Perhaps Job's companions would have less to say
And pray more, if that was expected!

And knowing that God, the Redeemer of Job,
Is our God forever and ever,
We ought to remember that this God will probe
Our motives in speech and endeavor.

How wisely we choose, then, to be slow to speak,
But hastened to listen and pray,
That God may give wisdom to us as we seek
To thereby be guided today.

O Lord, give us wisdom to weigh every word
By Scripture confirming what's true,
And make us more willing to hear than be heard
To gain understanding from You.
