Trusting His Teaching

Read:  Psalm 37 / Proverbs 30 / Micah 4 / Matthew 15

Psalm 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

Micah 4:2,5 Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths… We will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.

Matthew 15:16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?

The Lord is daily teaching us,

As we commit to Him our way.

He makes our path victorious

By trusting Him as we obey.

The day will come for Israel

When Christ shall teach them of His ways.

We ought to understand this well,

For prophets have foretold these days.

Dispels all Doubt

Read:  Psalm 36 / Proverbs 29 / Micah 3 / Matthew 14

Psalm 36:9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

Proverbs 29:26 Many seek the ruler's favor; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.

Micah 3:1 Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment?

Matthew 14:31 Jesus stretched forth his hand… caught him, and said O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

The light is shining from the Lord

That shows how much we need the Savior.

The Lord has promised to reward

All those who humbly seek His favor.

Let all uncertainty about

The Lord’s approaching judgment cease.

The cross of Christ dispels all doubt,

For there He died to give us peace.

Spoken by my Savior

Read:  Psalm 35 / Proverbs 28 / Micah 2 / Matthew 13

Psalm 35:3 Say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.

Proverbs 28:5 Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

Micah 2:13 The Breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate… and their King shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them.

Matthew 13:16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

My soul has heard the declaration

From Christ my Lord who speaks to me

To say that He is my Salvation

And He will lead me faithfully.

The gates of hell shall not prevail

Against the Word that Christ has spoken.

I know my Savior cannot fail;

His promises are never broken.

Magnify like Micah

Read:  Psalm 34 / Proverbs 27 / Micah 1 / Matthew 12

Psalm 34:3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.

Proverbs 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

Micah 1:1 The word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

Matthew 12:18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

O magnify the Lord with me,

As we exalt Him to this end!

As iron sharpens iron, we

Should be encouraging a friend.

As Micah prophesied God’s Word,

Christ was foreseen, whom we proclaim.

Let us, like Micah, now be stirred

To magnify our Savior’s name!

Savior of the Sinner

Read:  Psalm 33 / Proverbs 26 / Jonah 4 / Matthew 11

Psalm 33:11 The counsel of the LORD standeth forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

Proverbs 26:2 The curse causeless shall not come.

Jonah 4:11 Should not I spare Nineveh… wherein are more than six score thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

God’s counsel shall forever stand;

His thoughts shall also be revealed

To show the grace and truth He planned

By which the sinner may be healed.

Though Jonah’s thoughts were not inclined

To tell the cursed they could be blessed,

Our Savior, sending him, was kind,

Who longs to give the sinner rest.

Tidings to Tell

Read:  Psalm 32 / Proverbs 25 / Jonah 3 / Matthew 10

Psalm 32:2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

Proverbs 25:13,25 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him… As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

Jonah 3:2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be… wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

We are the messengers God sent

To bring good tidings of salvation.

We tell the lost if they repent,

God shall remove their condemnation.

Arise, therefore, to bring the news!

Be wise as serpents, meek as doves.

We urge the lost to wisely choose

The Lord who proved how much He loves.

Ponder the Price

Read:  Psalm 31 / Proverbs 24 / Jonah 2 / Matthew 9

Psalm 31:5 Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

Proverbs 24:23 These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

Jonah 2:3 The deep… floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

Matthew 9:5 For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?

Recalling the words of my Savior

Committing Himself to God’s hand,

I ponder the price of His favor,

Far greater than I understand!

How deep were the billows and waves

Below which my Savior descended

To ransom all those whom He saves

And rescue the souls He defended!

Jonah portraying Jesus

Read:  Psalm 30 / Proverbs 23 / Jonah 1 / Matthew 8

Psalm 30:10-12 Hear, O LORD… be thou my helper…. To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent.

Proverbs 23:15-17 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice… be thou in the fear of the LORD all… day long.

Jonah 1:15 So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.

Matthew 8:27 But the men marveled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

The Lord who heard me when I cried

Has filled my heart with joy and song.

By grace and truth I’m justified!

I’ll praise my Savior all day long.

When Jonah fell beneath the waves,

We saw the raging waters cease,

Portraying Jesus Christ who saves,

Who bore God’s wrath to give me peace.

Do what is Due

Read:  Psalm 29 / Proverbs 22 / Obadiah 1 / Matthew 7

Psalm 29:2,11 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness… The LORD will give strength… will bless his people with peace.

Proverbs 22:6,20,21 Train up a child in the way he should go… Have not I written to thee excellent things… that I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth?

Obadiah 17 Upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and… Jacob shall possess their possessions.

Matthew 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.

Give God the glory due His name;

Declare our Savior’s excellence.

Let us with certainty proclaim

His Gospel truth with evidence.

We train our children as we talk

About the things we know are true

That they may build upon the Rock

By doing what God says to do.

Sound of Solace

Read:  Psalm 28 / Proverbs 21 / Amos 9 / Matthew 6

Psalm 28:1 O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.

Proverbs 21:30,31 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD… safety is of the LORD.

Amos 9:10 All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

If God would cease to speak to me

(How dreadful is that contemplation),

The outlook of my life would be

A dark and fearful expectation.

O what a treasure I have found

As I explore God’s precious Word.

It is His voice!  No sweeter sound

Or greater solace can be heard.

Fearful Famine

Read:  Psalm 27 / Proverbs 20 / Amos 8 / Matthew 5

Psalm 27:1,11 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?... Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.

Proverbs 20:24 Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

Amos 8:11,12 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land… They shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

Matthew 5:16,18 Let your light so shine before men… for verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Our Savior’s light has clearly shined;

His Word has made His pathway plain.

Oh, what a comfort to the mind!

We do not seek His truth in vain!

But famine is anticipated

With growing darkness all around,

For when the light of God is hated,

The truth is sought, but never found.

Pleasant Plumbline

Read:  Psalm 26 / Proverbs 19 / Amos 7 / Matthew 4

Psalm 26:8 LORD, I have loved the habitation of thy house, and the place where thine honor dwelleth.

Proverbs 19:12 The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favor is as dew upon the grass.

Amos 7:7,8 The Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumb line… Then said the Lord… I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel.

Matthew 4:16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light… in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

We love the pleasant habitation

Where Jesus has His rightful place.

He is the Lord of our salvation,

The Author of amazing grace.

He shows the plumbline of His cross,

Dividing darkness from the light,

For there He purged our sins as dross,

And there He bravely fought our fight.

Preserved by Prudence

Read:  Psalm 25 / Proverbs 18 / Amos 6 / Matthew 3

Psalm 25:21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.

Proverbs 18:15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

Amos 6:3,13 Ye that put far away the evil day… rejoice in a thing of naught, which say, Have we not taken… by our own strength?

Matthew 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Let truth preserve me as I seek

The knowledge of my Savior’s way.

Let prudence guide the words I speak

As God instructs me what to say.

The fool delights in things of naught,

The very things God has abhorred.

The pleasure that my heart has sought

Is found in Jesus Christ my Lord.

Proclaim the Prince

Read:  Psalm 24 / Proverbs 17 / Amos 5 / Matthew 2

Psalm 24:8,10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle… the Lord of hosts.

Proverbs 17:17 A Friend loveth at all times, and a Brother is born for adversity.

Amos 5:8 Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion… The LORD is his name.

Matthew 2:2 Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

Who is this Friend, the King of glory,

Who came to earth to fight our fight?

The Lord of hosts!  Proclaim the story

Of Christ who saved us by His might.

He made the stars and named them too;

Behold the Prince of Light, Orion!

The wise men came with this in view

To worship Judah’s Kingly Lion.
