The Spirit and the Scripture

Read:  Psalm 119:41-48 / Proverbs 30 / 2 Samuel 23 / Acts 20

Psalm 119:46 ~ I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed.

Proverbs 30:5 ~ Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

2 Samuel 23:1-2 ~ David... the sweet psalmist... said, The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

Acts 20:20-21 ~ I kept back nothing... profitable unto you... repentance toward God... faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

We’re called to preach the truth of God

Which we are not ashamed to tell.

The gate is wide, the way is broad

That leads so many souls to hell.

The Spirit of the Lord has spoken,

And prophets wrote what they were told.

The Scripture never has been broken;

Its Gospel we must not withhold.

Confused about Condemnation

Read:  Psalm 119:33-40 / Proverbs 29 / 2 Samuel 22 / Acts 19

Psalm 119:37 ~ Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.

Proverbs 29:9 ~ If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.

2 Samuel 22:47 ~ The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.

Acts 19:32 ~ Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused.

Upon the Lord I'll fix my eyes

And turn away from vanity.

The fool refuses to be wise,

Confused by his insanity.

For is it not insane, at best,

To cast away the Lord's salvation?

In spite of raging, there's no rest

For those who scoff at condemnation.

Time to Talk

Read:  Psalm 119:25-32 / Proverbs 28 / 2 Samuel 21 / Acts 18

Psalm 119:27 ~ Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works.

Proverbs 28:5 ~ Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

2 Samuel 21:1,14 ~ Then there was a famine...  and David inquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul... And after that God was entreated for the land.

Acts 18:9-10 ~ Then spake the Lord to Paul... Be not afraid, but speak... hold not thy peace: for I am with thee... no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.

It's time to talk about salvation

And show the future God has planned.

Though some make light of condemnation,

Those seeking Him will understand.

The Lord is speaking still today

To those who yet will hear His voice.

ALL we like sheep have gone astray,

But God extends to ALL a choice!

Timeless Truth

Read:  Psalm 119:17-24 / Proverbs 27 / 2 Samuel 20 / Acts 17

Psalm 119:18 ~ Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.

Proverbs 27:1 ~ Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

2 Samuel 20:22 ~ Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom... And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.

Acts 17:11 ~ These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

How wondrous are the things we’ve heard

With timeless truth our Lord conveys.

Tomorrow’s plans are not assured,

But God foresees our numbered days.

So let us by His Word be wise,

And daily let us seek Him still.

Today the Lord will open eyes

Of those prepared to do His will.

Lamentation of the Lord

Read:  Psalm 119:9-16 / Proverbs 26 / 2 Samuel 19 / Acts 16

Psalm 119:13 ~ With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth.

Proverbs 26:2 ~ The curse causeless shall not come.

2 Samuel 19:4 ~ The king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!

Acts 16:30 ~ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

The judgments of the Lord are true

Which never shall be compromised.

What sorrow God the Father knew

When Christ, to save us, was despised.

For Absalom king David cried,

Yet there was deeper lamentation

When God beheld His Son who died

To bear the curse for our salvation!

Messengers of our Master

Read:  Psalm 119 / Proverbs 25 / 2 Samuel 18 / Acts 15

Psalm 119:2 ~ Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.

Proverbs 25:13 ~ As the cold of snow in the time of harvest... a faithful messenger... refresheth the soul of his masters.

2 Samuel 18:27 ~ The king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings.

Acts 15:7,11 ~ Peter... said... We believe... through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved.

The messengers whom God will send

Must seek Him with an earnest heart

And on His faithfulness depend

For wisdom that He will impart.

Our Master gave to us His Word

To tell the lost of saving grace,

And all who trust Him are assured

That He will be their Hiding Place.

Triumphant in our Tribulation

Read:  Psalm 118 / Proverbs 24 / 2 Samuel 17 / Acts 14

Psalm 118:8 ~ It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

Proverbs 24:6 ~ For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counselors there is safety.

2 Samuel 17:21 ~ They... went and told king David... Arise, and pass quickly... for thus hath Ahithophel counseled against you.

Acts 14:21-22 ~ They returned... confirming the... disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

Triumphant in our tribulation,

We know our Savior goes before

To lead us in the proclamation

That Christ is Lord forevermore.

Though all of hell should now conspire

To overthrow our confidence,

We triumph in a strength much higher,

For Jesus Christ is our Defense.

Buyers Beware

Read:  Psalm 117 / Proverbs 23 / 2 Samuel 16 / Acts 13

Psalm 117:1,2 ~ O praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people. for his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth forever. Praise ye the LORD.

Proverbs 23:23 ~ Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

2 Samuel 16:12 ~ It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and... requite me good for his cursing this day.

Acts 13:40,41 Beware therefore, lest that come upon you... spoken of in the prophets; Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.

Give praise to the Lord for His grace

With truth that forever endures

That went before God's righteous face

To pay for the gift Christ secures.

Let buyers of truth now beware:

Deceivers abound who entice!

Hold fast to the truth we declare;

Do not let it go for a price!

Loving the Lord

Read:  Psalm 116 / Proverbs 22 / 2 Samuel 15 / Acts 12

Psalm 116:1,16 ~ I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications... Thou hast loosed my bonds.

Proverbs 22:3 ~ A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

2 Samuel 15:21 ~ Surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life... there also will thy servant be.

Acts 12:7 ~ The angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side... saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

I'm loving the Lord for good reason:

I cried, and the Lord heard my voice!

He shelters my life in each season

And causes my soul to rejoice.

I'm loving the Lord for His grace

That saved me and now sets me free,

For He is my sure Hiding Place

Who laid down His own life for me.

Why ask Where?

Read:  Psalm 115 / Proverbs 21 / 2 Samuel 14 / Acts 11

Psalm 115:2 ~ Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God?

Proverbs 21:30 ~ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

2 Samuel 14:14 ~ For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God respect any person: yet doth he devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him.

Acts 11:18 ~ They... glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Why now should the nations say

"Where is your God?" as if they're blind,

When so much proof is on display

To satisfy the honest mind?

Yet God extends His great salvation

To everyone who will repent.

How graciously His invitation

To every nation has been sent!

Desiring His Dominion

Read:  Psalm 114 / Proverbs 20 / 2 Samuel 13 / Acts 10

Psalm 114:1,2,7 ~ When Israel went out of Egypt... Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion... Tremble, thou earth.

Proverbs 20:24,27 ~ Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?... The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts.

2 Samuel 13:39 ~ The soul of king David longed to go forth unto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon.

Acts 10:34-36 ~ Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons... he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him... Jesus Christ... is Lord of all.

As we desire God's dominion,

His blessing will attend our way.

We won't be moved by man's opinion

Enticing us to go astray.

The heart of Jesus Christ desires

That guilty sinners heed His call.

There's nothing more His grace requires

Than trusting Him as Lord of all.

Heard from Heaven

Read:  Psalm 113 / Proverbs 19 / 2 Samuel 12 / Acts 9

Psalm 113:5-7 ~ Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high, Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth! He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill.

Proverbs 19:23 ~ The fear of the LORD tendeth to life... he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

2 Samuel 12:13 ~ And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.

Acts 9:4 ~ And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

There's no one like the Lord who saves

And lifts us from the dung of sin,

Who rescues us from hopeless graves,

And dwells with those who let Him in.

It never had occurred to Saul

That Jesus came to be his Savior

Until the day he heard Him call

From heaven to impart His favor.

Led by His Light

Read:  Psalm 112 / Proverbs 18 / 2 Samuel 11 / Acts 8

Psalm 112:4,7 ~ Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness... His heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.

Proverbs 18:1,21 ~ Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom... Death and life are in the power of the tongue.

2 Samuel 11:27 ~ David had... displeased the LORD.

Acts 8:35 ~ Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

I turned from the lies I had heard

And searched in the darkness of night

Till God sent the truth of His Word

To lead me to Christ by His light.

The light of God's Word that was sent,

Which fearfully showed me my sin,

Then led me to humbly repent

And joyfully let Jesus in!

Redemption Remembered

Read:  Psalm 111 / Proverbs 17 / 2 Samuel 10 / Acts 7

Psalm 111:4,9 ~ He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion… He sent redemption.

Proverbs 17:15-17 ~ He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD. Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it? A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

2 Samuel 10:19 ~ When all the kings... saw that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel.

Acts 7:52 ~ They have slain them which showed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers.

The Lord has made His works renown;

Remember our redemption's cost!

He bore the cross and thorny crown

To offer grace to ALL the lost.

The Lamb of God for us was slain;

Let not His wondrous works be hid!

How costly was the peace we gain

By what our gracious Savior did!

Testify Triumphantly

Read:  Psalm 110 / Proverbs 16 / 2 Samuel 9 / Acts 6

Psalm 110:3 ~ Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness.

Proverbs 16:6 ~ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

2 Samuel 9:13 ~ So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king's table... lame on both his feet.

Acts 6:8,15 ~ And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders... And all that sat in the council, looking steadfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

The people saved by truth and grace

Are purged from all iniquity.

By faith, in every time and place,

They testify triumphantly.

Mephibosheth, though he was lame,

Was called to dine with royal favor,

And Stephen glorified the name

Of Christ our risen Lord and Savior.

Message from our Mouth

Read:  Psalm 109 / Proverbs 15 / 2 Samuel 8 / Acts 5

Psalm 109:30,31 ~ I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth... For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.

Proverbs 15:28 ~ The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

2 Samuel 8:14,15 ~ The LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.  And David... executed judgment and justice unto all his people.

Acts 5:19,20 ~ The angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said, Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

The Lord has opened wide the door

To preach the message that He gave

To young and old, to rich and poor,

Declaring Christ alone can save.

The message from our mouth today

That God commands us now to speak

Is in the Gospel we convey

With words of life that save the meek.

Blessing of Boldness

Read:  Psalm 108 / Proverbs 14 / 2 Samuel 7 / Acts 4

Psalm 108:1 ~ O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.

Proverbs 14:26 ~ In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

2 Samuel 7:20 ~ And what can David say more unto thee? for thou, Lord GOD, knowest thy servant.

Acts 4:29 ~ And now, Lord... grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word.

The blessing of boldness God gives

Replaces our doubt and our fear

As we are assured that Christ lives

And that He will always be near.

What more to the Lord can we say

To thank Him for such confidence?

He leads us with boldness today

To speak with a ready defense!

Ransom of the Redeemed

Read:  Psalm 107 / Proverbs 13 / 2 Samuel 6 / Acts 3

Psalm 107:2,43 ~ Let the redeemed...say so... redeemed from the hand of the enemy... Whoso is wise, and will observe these things... shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.

Proverbs 13:8 ~ The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

2 Samuel 6:18 ~ David... blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.

Acts 3:19 ~ Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

Far worse than I had ever dreamed,

My unsaved soul was bound for hell!

Praise God!  By Christ I am redeemed!

I know His lovingkindness well!

His ransom blotted out my sin;

I’m justified!  Who can accuse?

Thanks be to God who died to win

My soul I otherwise would lose!

Safety from Seduction

Read:  Psalm 106 / Proverbs 12 / 2 Samuel 5 / Acts 2

Psalm 106:2 ~ Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise?

Proverbs 12:26 ~ The righteous is more excellent than his neighbor: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.

2 Samuel 5:10 ~ And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him.

Acts 2:40 ~ And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

We cannot utter all the praise

For all God’s mighty acts explored

As we examine all the ways

Of Jesus, our Heroic Lord.

Yet still our hearts may be enticed,

Distracted to our own destruction,

Unless we look to Jesus Christ

Who gives us safety from seduction.

Witnesses Sent to Win Souls

Read:  Psalm 105 / Proverbs 11 / 2 Samuel 4 / Acts 1

Psalm 105:1,2 ~ O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.

Proverbs 11:30 ~ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

2 Samuel 4:9 ~ The LORD liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity.

Acts 1:8 ~ But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me... unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Make known the works that Jesus did!

Declare the truth!  Refute the lies!

Let not the Gospel now be hid,

For he that wins a soul is wise.

We are His witnesses with power

To win the souls to whom we're sent.

Let us redeem each precious hour

By calling sinners to repent.

Faithfully Follow

Read:  Psalm 104 / Proverbs 10 / 2 Samuel 3 / John 21

Psalm 104:1,4 ~ Bless the LORD, O my soul... Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire.

Proverbs 10:5,16 ~ He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame... The labor of the righteous tendeth to life.

2 Samuel 3:17,18 ~ Ye sought for David in times past to be king over you: Now then do it: for the LORD hath spoken of David.

John 21:21,22 ~ Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

God makes His ministers a fire

That they may magnify His name.

So may He fill us with desire

To follow Him and spread His fame.

If now the flame is waxing dim

And weariness replaces action,

Let us return to follow Him

Now faithfully without distraction!
