Mischief vs. Mercy

"Why boasteth thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? The goodness of God endureth continually.... God shall likewise destroy thee forever, He shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living.... But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever" (Psalm 52:1-8).

The mighty man of mischief boasts,
But not for very long.
The mighty God, the Lord of hosts,
Will set right what is wrong.

Our God is good continually
And full of truth and grace.
The man of mischief soon will be
Uprooted from his place.

Though mighty men of sin may tout
Of mischief framed today,
Our God in time shall pluck them out,
And take them all away.

But everyone who trusts the Lord
Shall never be forsaken.
What confidence this will afford:
His goodness can't be shaken!

Your mercies, Lord, unceasingly
Toward Your own abound,
For we are like an olive tree
Wherein Your fruit is found.
