Riches Reckoned

"There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches. The ransom of a man's life are his riches" (Proverbs 13:7,8). "For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich" (2 Corinthians 8:9).

The riches reckoned by this world
Will soon be turned away,
As is a flower, once unfurled,
That withers in decay.

The riches reckoned by the Lord
Shall make us rich indeed.
The ransom we could not afford
In Christ is all we need.

We know the grace of Jesus Christ
Who set His throne aside
To pay the ransom that sufficed
When on the cross He died.

How very rich we have become
By heaven's perfect measure,
Since Christ has paid that awful sum
That we might have His treasure!

O Lord, receive our thanks today
And evermore as well:
The ransom that You came to pay
Has saved our souls from hell!
