Everlasting Eyes

"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with Mine eye. Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle" (Psalm 32:8,9). "My son, attend unto My wisdom.... lest thou give... thy years unto the cruel.... For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and He pondereth all his goings" (Proverbs 5:1,9,21).

Everlasting eyes of love
Have fixed their holy gaze
To look upon us from above
And ponder all our ways.

Eyes that see eternal gain
Would guide us where to go
And spare us from the years of pain
Surrendered to our foe.

Holy eyes would purify
The temple of our heart,
That God may therein occupy
And purge our inward part.

O Lord, we're thankful that Your eyes
Have looked on us with grace;
Though sinful, You did not despise
Nor thrust us from Your face.

So may Your eyes of wisdom rule,
And may we now obey,
Not bridled as the horse or mule,
Constrained by love each day.
