Reading Reputations

Read:  Psalm 92 / Proverbs 31 / 1 Chron. 27 / 2 Cor. 3

Psalm 92:5 ~ O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.

Proverbs 31:1 ~ The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

1 Chronicles 27:32 ~ Also Jonathan David's uncle was a counselor, a wise man, and a scribe.

2 Corinthians 3:2 ~ Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men.

We see Christ’s wisdom in creation

And contemplate His thoughts revealed

Through His prophetic reputation,

For by His stripes we have been healed.

The counselors that David knew

Had trusted reputations then.

Let us be likewise counted true

As we are known and read by men.

Triumphant Trust

Read:  Psalm 91 / Proverbs 30 / 1 Chronicles 26 / 2 Corinthians 2

Psalm 91:2 ~ I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

Proverbs 30:5 ~ Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

1 Chronicles 26:32 ~ King David made rulers… for every matter pertaining to God, and affairs of the king.

2 Corinthians 2:14 ~ Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savor of his knowledge by us in every place.

In God my Refuge I will trust,

For His triumphant Word is pure.

When earthly kingdoms turn to dust,

His truth shall evermore endure.

The matters that pertain to God

Are greater than affairs of kings.

The values of this earth are flawed

That disregard eternal things.

Behold the Beauty

Read:  Psalm 90 / Proverbs 29 / 1 Chronicles 25 / 2 Corinthians 1

Psalm 90:17 ~ And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.

Proverbs 29:18 ~ Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

1 Chronicles 25:5 ~ All these were the sons of Heman the king's seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

2 Corinthians 1:3,18 ~ Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort… God is true… not yea and nay.

Behold the beauty of our Savior,

Though by the world He be rejected.

Let Christ be seen in our behavior,

Whereby His glory is reflected.

With comfort that His Spirit gives,

His vision fills our hearts with song.

Our God is true!  Because He lives,

We live to prove His foes were wrong.

Division by Decision

Read:  Psalm 89 / Proverbs 28 / 1 Chron. 24 / 1 Cor. 16

Psalm 89:14,15 ~ Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face. Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound.

Proverbs 28:13 ~ He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

1 Chronicles 24:2 ~ But Nadab and Abihu died before their father… Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest's office.

1 Corinthians 16:22 ~ If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.

God's judgment dwells upon His throne,

Yet He has sent before His face

Our Lord by whom He has made known

Salvation through His truth and grace.

The Lord observes the clear division

Of those whose birth is from above

Determined by a true decision

To trust in Christ, the Lord of love.

Still Steadfast

Read:  Psalm 88 / Proverbs 27 / 1 Chron. 23 / 1 Cor. 15

Psalm 88:3 ~ My life draweth nigh unto the grave.

Proverbs 27:1,23 ~ Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth… Be thou diligent.

1 Chronicles 23:30-32 ~ Stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even… continually before the LORD… in the service of the house of the LORD.

1 Corinthians 15:58 ~ Therefore… be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Our life is drawing near the grave

With every finite, fleeting breath,

But Jesus Christ our Savior gave

His life to save our soul from death.

He placed us in the joyful ranks

Of those who celebrate His favor,

Who praise the Lord, who give Him thanks,

And still steadfastly serve our Savior.

Zealous for Zion

Read:  Psalm 87 / Proverbs 26 / 1 Chronicles  22 / 1 Corinthians 14

Psalm 87:3 ~ Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God.

Proverbs 26:2 ~ The curse causeless shall not come.

1 Chronicles 22:11 ~ Now… build the house of the LORD thy God… Arise… and be doing, and the LORD be with thee.

1 Corinthians 14:12 ~ Forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

The glorious things that God has spoken

Should set our hearts on things above.

The curse that held us has been broken

Through Christ by His redeeming love!

With Gospel tidings let us build

The house wherein our Lord will dwell.

Let Zion’s banquet house be filled!

Be zealous, therefore, and excel.

Christmas Gift that Christ Gave

Read:  Psalm 86 / Proverbs 25 / 1 Chron. 21 / 1 Cor. 13

Psalm 86:5 ~ For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

Proverbs 25:25 ~ As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

1 Chronicles 21:24 ~ King David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.

1 Corinthians 13:12 ~ For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

How costly was God’s Christmas Gift

That offers mercy to us all!

Christ gave Himself to save and lift

The humble hearts who on Him call.

King David purchased at full price

The temple site portraying grace,

Foreshadowing the Sacrifice

Of Jesus dying in our place.

Greatest Gift

Read:  Psalm 85 / Proverbs 24 / 1 Chronicles 20 / 1 Corinthians 12

Psalm 85:8 ~ I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people.

Proverbs 24:14 ~ So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

1 Chronicles 20:2 ~ David took the crown of their king from off his head, and… also exceeding much spoil out of the city.

1 Corinthians 12:31 ~ But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

Decrees from rulers may abound,

In contrast to what God has said.

The wise men heard a sweeter sound

And worshipped Jesus Christ instead.

Though many seek a crown’s reward,

Their earthly prize shall soon grow dim.

The Greatest Gift is Christ our Lord,

Who draws our hearts to worship Him.

Remedy of Remembrance

Read:  Psalm 84 / Proverbs 23 / 1 Chronicles 19 / 1 Corinthians 11

Psalm 84:3 ~ Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.

Proverbs 23:26 ~ My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

1 Chronicles 19:13 ~ Be of good courage… behave ourselves valiantly… let the LORD do that which is good in his sight.

1 Corinthians 11:26 ~ For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

The lonely sparrow finds her rest

In altars typifying Christ.

The swallow makes her young a nest

Where Christ, in type, was sacrificed.

O what a remedy we find

In the remembrance of our Lord!

His altars sweetly call to mind

His love we scarcely have explored.

Prudent Person

Read:  Psalm 83 / Proverbs 22 / 1 Chronicles 18 / 1 Corinthians 10

Psalm 83:16,18 ~ Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name… that men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.

Proverbs 22:3,4 ~ A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished. By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honor, and life.

1 Chronicles 18:14 ~ So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people.

1 Corinthians 10:32,33 ~ Give none offense, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles… that they may be saved.

If Christ our Savior never came,

We would not have a second birth.

Our faces would be filled with shame

When we departed from this earth.

A prudent person will foresee

The fast-approaching condemnation.

No wonder we are called to flee

To Christ who purchased our salvation!

Sent to Sinners

Read:  Psalm 82 / Proverbs 21 / 1 Chron. 17 / 1 Cor. 9

Psalm 82:5 ~ They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

Proverbs 21:29 ~ A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.

1 Chronicles 17:16 ~ And David the king came and sat before the LORD, and said, Who am I, O LORD God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?

1 Corinthians 9:16 ~ Woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!

Foundations all are out of course

As sinners spurn God’s saving grace,

Yet they shall meet the Lord by force

When they shall bow before His face.

But who am I, that I should be

A messenger to sinners sent?

My Savior calls, and woe is me

If I don’t tell them to repent!

Hunger of our Heart

Read:  Psalm 81 / Proverbs 20 / 1 Chronicles 16 / 1 Corinthians 8

Psalm 81:10,16 ~ I am the LORD thy God… open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it… with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.

Proverbs 20:27 ~ The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

1 Chronicles 16:11 ~ Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.

1 Corinthians 8:3 ~ If any man love God, the same is known of him.

There is a hunger deep inside

That only Jesus Christ can fill.

So let our hearts be open wide

To seek His face and do His will.

God sees the hunger of our heart,

And He has promised satisfaction

To those who love Him and depart

From things that serve as a distraction.

Advancing for our Advocate

Read:  Psalm 80 / Proverbs 19 / 1 Chron. 15 / 1 Cor. 7

Psalm 80:17,18 ~ Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself… Quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

Proverbs 19:21 ~ There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

1 Chronicles 15:13 ~ The LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order.

1 Corinthians 7:29,31 ~ But this I say, brethren, the time is short… for the fashion of this world passeth away.

The Man who is at God’s right hand

Is Jesus Christ who intercedes.

His precious promises shall stand;

He is our Advocate who pleads.

O let us not a moment waste!

This world soon shall pass away.

Our time is short; Let us make haste!

Advance His glory every day.
