His Promises Have Prevailed

Read:  Psalm 150 / Proverbs 30 / 2 Samuel 6 / Luke 16

Psalm 150:2,6 Praise him for his mighty acts… Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

Proverbs 30:4 Who hath ascended up… or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth?

2 Samuel 6:15 David and all… Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.

Luke 16:17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.

Praise God for all His mighty acts,

Who gathers wind within His fists,

Who sets before us all the facts

And amply proves that He exists.

The Lord descended in the past;

His promises have never failed.

The trumpet of the Lord shall blast

When Christ returns and has prevailed.

Voice and Vision

Read:  Psalm 149 / Proverbs 29 / 2 Samuel 5 / Luke 15

Psalm 149:4 For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

2 Samuel 5:10,12 And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him… And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel's sake.

Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

The Lord our God is taking pleasure

In all who trust Him for salvation.

We are His everlasting treasure

That He redeemed from condemnation.

The Lord, who strengthened David’s hand,

Then gave him a prophetic voice

Foretelling His salvation planned,

And in that vision, we rejoice.

Count the Cost

Read:  Psalm 148 / Proverbs 28 / 2 Samuel 4 / Luke 14

Psalm 148:11-13 Kings of the earth, and all people… both young men, and maidens; old men, and children: let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent.

Proverbs 28:5 Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

2 Samuel 4:10 When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I… slew him… who thought that I would have given him a reward.

Luke 14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

The name of God is excellent

Above all other names explored,

But those who mock Him shall lament

That they refused to seek the Lord.

The sinners blinded by their pride

Have never stopped to count the cost

Of turning from the Lord who died

To pay the ransom for the lost.

His Word and His Wings

Read:  Psalm 147 / Proverbs 27 / 2 Samuel 3 / Luke 13

Psalm 147:19,20 He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel. He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them.

Proverbs 27:1,12 Thou knowest not what a day may bring forth… A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.

2 Samuel 3:18 The LORD hath spoken… By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.

Luke 13:5,34 Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish… How often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

God shows the truth we could not know,

For all the future is unseen.

The Word of God will clearly show

The need for Christ to intervene.

The Christ from David’s seed was sent,

Yet some refuse our King of kings.

All those who wisely will repent

Shall safely hide beneath His wings.

Divine Division

Read:  Psalm 146 / Proverbs 26 / 2 Samuel 2 / Luke 12

Psalm 146:2,3 While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being. Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

Proverbs 26:2 The curse causeless shall not come.

2 Samuel 2:4,6 They anointed David king… The LORD shew kindness and truth unto you… because ye have done this thing.

Luke 12:23 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division.

As long as God shall give me breath,

I’ll sing my praise to Jesus Christ

Who bore the curse of sin and death

When He for me was sacrificed.

I’ll sing, despite the fool’s derision,

With grateful love to Christ my Savior

Whose grace has brought Divine division

Between His judgment and His favor.

Lord of Love

Read:  Psalm 145 / Proverbs 25 / 2 Samuel 1 / Luke 11

Psalm 145:3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

Proverbs 25:2,3 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to search out a matter... the heart of kings is unsearchable.

2 Samuel 1:25 How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! O Jonathan, thou wast slain in thine high places.

Luke 11:31-32 Behold, a greater than Solomon is here… Behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

The Lord is greatly to be praised;

His greatness is unsearchable!

Let all who seek Him be amazed

That He would die to save our soul.

We stand in awe at our Creator

Who is our Savior from above!

Among all heroes, none is greater

Than our majestic Lord of love!

How Happy!

Read:  Psalm 144 / Proverbs 24 / 1 Samuel 31 / Luke 10

Psalm 144:15 Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.

Proverbs 24:6 For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counselors there is safety.

1 Samuel 31:12 All the valiant men arose, and went all night.

Luke 10:20,42 Rejoice because your names are written in heaven… But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

How happy are those people found

Who love the Lord whom we adore.

They know salvation’s joyful sound;

They hear and heed His call to war.

The valiant hearts who serve the Lord

Are battle-ready for inspection.

The Lord Himself is their Reward,

And He is also their Protection.

Hear Him

Read:  Psalm 143 / Proverbs 23 / 1 Samuel 30 / Luke 9

Psalm 143:8 Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

Proverbs 23:26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

1 Samuel 30:6,8 And David was greatly distressed… but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God… And David inquired at the LORD… And He answered him.

Luke 9:35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is My beloved Son: hear Him.

I need to hear my Savior’s voice

Throughout the day, the night, and morning.

I need to wisely make the choice

To follow Him and heed His warning.

I see the path that David took

When he had wept and was distressed.

To God alone then he could look;

God answered him, and he was blessed.

Great and Gracious

Read:  Psalm 142 / Proverbs 22 / 1 Samuel 29 / Luke 8

Psalm 142:3-5 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path… No man cared for my soul. I cried unto thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my refuge.

Proverbs 22:3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

1 Samuel 29:5,11 Is not this David, of whom they sang one to another in dances, saying, Saul slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands?... So David… rose up… to return.

Luke 8:39 Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he… published…  throughout the whole city… great things Jesus had done.

When I was overwhelmed within,

The Savior understood my path.

He saw the burden of my sin,

And He delivered me from wrath.

The path that David had not planned

Was ordered by the Lord for good.

How great and gracious is His hand

That saved me as no other could!

Wisdom's Warning

Read:  Psalm 141 / Proverbs 21 / 1 Samuel 28 / Luke 7

Psalm 141:4 Incline not my heart to any evil thing… with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.

Proverbs 21:29 A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.

1 Samuel 28:17 The LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbor, even to David.

Luke 7:35 But wisdom is justified of all her children.

My heart should never be inclined

To turn away from God’s direction.

I know my heart, my soul, and mind

Are always under God’s inspection.

I see the wayward end of Saul.

I see the wickedness of pride.

I see the warning to us all,

And wisdom thus is justified.

Covered by Christ

Read:  Psalm 140 / Proverbs 20 / 1 Samuel 27 / Luke 6

Psalm 140:7 O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

Proverbs 20:9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

1 Samuel 27:1 David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines.

Luke 6:3 Have ye not read so much as this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and they which were with him?

In battle, Christ has covered me

By His defense and His correction.

But for His grace, I clearly see

I would have died without protection.

If Jesus did not intervene,

I know my sin could not be hid,

And since by grace my heart is clean,

I trust in Christ like David did.

Life without Lament

Read:  Psalm 139 / Proverbs 19 / 1 Samuel 26 / Luke 5

Psalm 139:23,24 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Proverbs 19:20,23 Hear counsel…that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end… The fear of the LORD tendeth to life… he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

1 Samuel 26:24 So let my life be much set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation.

Luke 5:10,32 Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men… I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

We need the Lord to search our heart

And thus expose our wicked ways.

We need His grace to then depart

From every path that from Him strays.

The fear of God shall make us wise

To live our life without lament,

To be well-pleasing in His eyes,

And call on sinners to repent.

Protection and Perfection

Read:  Psalm 138 / Proverbs 18 / 1 Samuel 25 / Luke 4

Psalm 138:7,8 Thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies… The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth forever.

Proverbs 18:24 There is a Friend… closer than a brother.

1 Samuel 25:29 Thy soul… shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thine enemies, them shall he sling out, as out of the middle of a sling.

Luke 4:18-19 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me… to preach the gospel to the poor… to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives… the acceptable year of the Lord.

The hand of God is my protection

Against the foes who seek my harm.

The Lord continues my perfection

As He upholds me with His arm.

I have no better, closer friend;

He gave Himself to save my soul.

There was no more that He could spend;

My ransom has been paid in full!

Same Song

Read:  Psalm 137 / Proverbs 17 / 1 Samuel 24 / Luke 3

Psalm 137:4 How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a strange land?

Proverbs 17:16,17 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it? A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

1 Samuel 24:15 The LORD therefore be judge, and… plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand.

Luke 3:6,7 All flesh shall see the salvation of God…. Who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

The song we sing should never change,

Though circumstances often do.

The land in which we sing is strange,

But Jesus Christ is always true.

The song we sing remains the same

Because it’s based upon His love.

We’re trusting in the faithful name

Of Christ who is enthroned above.

Redeemed and Reborn

Read:  Psalm 136 / Proverbs 16 / 1 Samuel 23 / Luke 2

Psalm 136:1,23,24 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever… Who remembered us in our low estate… And hath redeemed us from our enemies.

Proverbs 16:6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

1 Samuel 23:4 David inquired… And the LORD answered.

Luke 2:30,31 Mine eyes have seen thy salvation which thou hast prepared before the face of all people.

Our eyes have seen the Lord’s salvation;

He has redeemed us from our sin,

And we became a new creation,

Reborn when Jesus entered in.

The Lord has heard the humble prayer

Of every heart that seeks His face.

Let those rejecting Him beware;

In Christ alone is saving grace.

Mindful of the Mighty

Read:  Psalm 135 / Proverbs 15 / 1 Samuel 22 / Luke 1

Psalm 135:13 Thy name, O LORD, endureth forever; and thy memorial, O LORD, throughout all generations.

Proverbs 15:11,24 Hell and destruction are before the LORD… The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

1 Samuel 22:23 Abide thou with me, fear not… with me thou shalt be in safeguard.

Luke 1:47,49 My spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior… He that is mighty hath done to me great things… holy is his name.

The name of Jesus evermore

Shall make us mindful of His love.

Hell and destruction were in store,

But Christ descended from above.

The Lord of lords, the King of kings,

Delivered us from sin and shame.

Our mighty God has done great things,

And holy is our Savior’s name!

Cause for Confidence

Read:  Psalm 134 / Proverbs 14 / 1 Samuel 21 / Mark 16

Psalm 134:2,3 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD. The LORD that made heaven and earth bless thee.

Proverbs 14:26,27 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and… a place of refuge. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

1 Samuel 21:10 And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

Mark 16:20 They… preached everywhere, the Lord working with them… confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Lift up your hands in adoration

To Christ who is our strong Defense.

He is our Refuge and Salvation;

He is our Cause for confidence.

When David feared, he made his plan

To flee from Saul and then to Gath.

He learned thereby to fear not man,

But rather God, who saves from wrath.

Pleasure in our Priest

Read:  Psalm 133 / Proverbs 13 / 1 Samuel 20 / Mark 15

Psalm 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

Proverbs 13:20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

1 Samuel 20:17 Jonathan caused David to swear… because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

Mark 15:47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.

Behold the goodness and the pleasure

Of unity around our Lord

As we have searched the boundless treasure

In Christ whose love we have explored.

Our fellowship of kindred love

Is joyful in our hearts’ reflection

On our Anointed Priest above,

His life, His death, and resurrection.

Defeat of Deceit

Read:  Psalm 132 / Proverbs 12 / 1 Samuel 19 / Mark 14

Psalm 132:11 The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David.

Proverbs 12:5 The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

1 Samuel 19:6 Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As the LORD liveth, he shall not be slain.

Mark 14:27,28 All ye shall be offended…  for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered… But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.

The Lord has surely spoken right

Against the darkness of deceit.

The Word of God has shined His light,

And liars thus have met defeat.

God’s promises were all that mattered,

When David faced his many foes,

And though Christ’s followers were scattered,

They boldly spoke when Jesus rose.
