To Hear The Helpless

Read:  Psalm 102 / Proverbs 30 / Isaiah 48 / John 5

Psalm 102:19,20 ~ For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the LORD behold the earth; To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death.

Proverbs 30:4,5 ~ Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? He is a shield unto them that… trust in him.

Isaiah 48:16 ~ Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD and his Spirit… sent me.

John 5:39 ~ Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

The Lord looked down from heaven’s height

To hear the helpless captives groan.

Their souls were precious in His sight,

So He descended from His throne.

This was the promise that was spoken

By prophets who foretold God’s plan.

The Scriptures never have been broken,

Foretelling grace to fallen man.

Seeks for Such

Read:  Psalm 101 / Proverbs 29 / Isaiah 47 / John 4

Psalm 101:1-3 ~ I will sing of mercy and judgment: unto thee, O LORD… I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes.

Proverbs 29:26 ~ Many seek the ruler's favor; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.

Isaiah 47:4 ~ As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.

John 4:24 ~ The Father seeketh such… God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Should not the mercy of our Savior

And judgment that for us He bore

Direct our song and our behavior

To praise the Hero we adore?

Because our Savior suffered much

When He for us was sacrificed,

The Father rightly seeks for such

Who truly worship Jesus Christ.

Mercy's Mandate

Read:  Psalm 100 / Proverbs 28 / Isaiah 46 / John 3

Psalm 100:5 ~ For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Proverbs 28:13 ~ He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

Isaiah 46:12,13 ~ Hearken… I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry.

John 3:7 ~ Marvel not that I said… Ye must be born again.

The Lord is good; His truth endures

To each and every generation.

His everlasting mercy cures

The sinful soul by His salvation.

The righteousness of God came near

When Jesus walked among us then.

He made salvation’s mandate clear:

A sinner must be born again.

Reproof and Repentance

Read:  Psalm 99 / Proverbs 27 / Isaiah 45 / John 2

Psalm 99:8 ~ O LORD our God: thou wast a God that forgavest them, though thou tookest vengeance of their inventions.

Proverbs 27:5 ~ Open rebuke is better than secret love.

Isaiah 45:19 ~ I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

John 2:16 ~ Said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise.

The Lord, beholding from above,

Corrected servants He reproved.

Our God rebuked them in His love,

Forgiving sins that He removed.

The wise and humble heart repents

At God’s reproof without delay.

When Jesus says, Take these things hence,

We should be instant to obey.

Grace beyond the Grave

Read:  Psalm 98 / Proverbs 26 / Isaiah 44 / John 1

Psalm 98:3 ~ He hath remembered his mercy and his truth…  all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

Proverbs 26:2 ~ The curse causeless shall not come.

Isaiah 44:6 ~ Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel… I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

John 1:17 ~ For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

The grace and truth of God’s salvation

Are on display in all the earth:

The curse demanding condemnation

May be exchanged for second birth.

Beside the Lord, there is no Savior

To offer grace beyond the grave,

But grace and truth extend God’s favor

By Jesus Christ who lives to save.

Sent by the Savior

Read:  Psalm 97 / Proverbs 25 / Isaiah 43 / Luke 24

Psalm 97:6 ~ The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.

Proverbs 25:25 ~ As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

Isaiah 43:11 ~ I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no Savior.

Luke 24:47 ~ And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Like stars above that God has named

To show our Savior’s righteousness,

The Gospel also is proclaimed

To rescue sinners in distress.

As messengers by Jesus sent,

We show there is no other Savior

And call on sinners to repent

To find their refuge in His favor.

Our Message and Our Mission

Read:  Psalm 96 / Proverbs 24 / Isaiah 42 / Luke 23

Psalm 96:2,3 ~ Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.

Proverbs 24:14 ~ So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

Isaiah 42:6,7 ~ I the LORD have called thee in righteousness… to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

Luke 23:43 ~ And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Sing praise to God and bless His name;

Declare the news of His salvation!

As prophets promised, so He came;

His Word confirms our expectation.

The Gospel opens blinded eyes

And brings out prisoners from prison

To dwell with Christ in paradise;

This is our message and our mission.

Peter's Pitfall

Read:  Psalm 95 / Proverbs 23 / Isaiah 41 / Luke 22

Psalm 95:6-8 ~ O come, let us worship… For He is our God…  Today if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your heart.

Proverbs 23:26 ~ My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

Isaiah 41:10 ~ Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with… my righteousness.

Luke 22:61,62 ~ The Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord… and wept bitterly.

The call to turn to God is clear,

But hardened hearts walk on in danger.

Today God calls each heart to hear,

Or else be found by Him a stranger.

Yet God speaks to His own as well

To heed the warnings in His Book,

Remembering how Peter fell

And wept when Jesus turned to look.

Flowers Fade

Read:  Psalm 94 / Proverbs 22 / Isaiah 40 / Luke 21

Psalm 94:9 ~ He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?

Proverbs 22:20,21 ~ Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

Isaiah 40:8 ~ The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

Luke 21:33 ~ Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

The thoughts of pure insanity

Are heard from those dismissing God.

They thus deceive humanity

And teach what atheists applaud.

The grass shall wither; flowers fade.

The Word of God shall stand forever.

The shame of fools shall be displayed

Who thought their arguments were clever.

Humble vs. Hardened

Read:  Psalm 93 / Proverbs 21 / Isaiah 39 / Luke 20

Psalm 93:5 ~ Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, forever.

Proverbs 21:29 ~ A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he directeth his way.

Isaiah 39:8 ~ Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD… For there shall be peace and truth in my days.

Luke 20:17 ~ What is this then that is written, The Stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the Head of the corner?

The testimonies of the Lord

Declare He is forever holy,

Yet by His grace we have explored

Salvation offered to the lowly.

Our Savior is the Corner Stone

By whom the humble may be pardoned,

But Christ upon His great white throne

Shall judge the proud whose hearts are hardened.

To Seek and To Save

Read:  Psalm 92 / Proverbs 20 / Isaiah 38 / Luke 19

Psalm 92:5 ~ O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.

Proverbs 20:24 ~ Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

Isaiah 38:17 ~ Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

Luke 19:10 ~ For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

The works of God are surely great;

The thoughts of God are very deep.

When we were in our lost estate,

He saw our tears; He heard us weep.

Behold the wondrous love of Christ

Who came to seek and save the lost:

He suffered and was sacrificed

To ransom souls at such a cost!

Secret of our Safety

Read:  Psalm 91 / Proverbs 19 / Isaiah 37 / Luke 18

Psalm 91:1 ~ He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Proverbs 19:23 ~ The fear of the LORD tendeth to life… he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

Isaiah 37:14 ~ And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.

Luke 18:39,42 ~ They which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me… Thy faith hath saved thee.

There is a secret place to dwell

That gives us safety in the strife,

That rescues us at last from hell,

And leads us to eternal life.

Like Hezekiah who had spread

Before the Lord that dreadful letter,

We should not fear, but pray instead,

Assured that trusting God is better.

Prayerfully Pursue

Read:  Psalm 90 / Proverbs 18 / Isaiah 36 / Luke 17

Psalm 90:12 ~ So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Proverbs 18:10 ~ The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Isaiah 36:18 ~ Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

Luke 17:30,32 ~ Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed… Remember Lot's wife.

Our days on earth are very few,

So we should fear the Lord, not man.

We ought to prayerfully pursue

The heart of God and trust His plan.

When Hezekiah was afraid,

He prayed to God and did not lack.

Let his example now persuade

Our hearts to trust and not look back.
