Lord of Light and Life

Read:  Psalm 54 / Proverbs 31 / Ezekiel 48 / 1 Tim. 6

Psalm 54:7 ~ He hath delivered me out of all trouble: and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.

Proverbs 31:8 ~ Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.

Ezekiel 48:29,35 ~ This is the land which ye shall divide… and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there.

1 Timothy 6:12-16 ~ Fight the good fight of faith… thou art also called, and hast professed… the King of kings, and Lord of lords… dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto… to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.

The Lord who has delivered me

Has triumphed in the deadly strife.

I’ve seen his foes in terror flee

Before the Lord of light and life!

I’m called by grace to cast my care

On Christ who is my soul’s Defense,

As I proclaim that He is there

For every sinner who repents.

Exploring the Explanation

Read:  Psalm 53 / Proverbs 30 / Ezekiel 47 / 1 Tim. 5

Psalm 53:1 ~ The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they… there is none that doeth good.

Proverbs 30:4 ~ Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended?... gathered the wind in his fists?... bound the waters in a garment?... established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and… his son's name, if thou canst tell?

Ezekiel 47:5,6 ~ The waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over. And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this?

1 Timothy 5:21 ~ I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels… observe these things…  without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

The fool has said there is no God,

And thereby proves he is insane.

How else can thinking be so flawed

When God has made His presence plain?

When earth and heaven are explored,

We cannot find an explanation

Apart from Jesus Christ our Lord

Who gave Himself for our salvation.

Goodness of God

Read:  Psalm 52 / Proverbs 29 / Ezekiel 46 / 1 Tim. 4

Psalm 52:1,4 ~ Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually… Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

Proverbs 29:25 ~ The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

Ezekiel 46:15 ~ Prepare the lamb, and the meat offering, and the oil, every morning for a continual burnt offering.

1 Timothy 4:16 ~ Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

My God is faithful every hour;

I know His goodness does not cease.

In contrast, Satan would devour

My hope and rob me of my peace.

My Savior’s Word supplies my need

As I continue day and night

To hear His counsel and take heed

To turn not to the left or right.

Passover made Plain

Read:  Psalm 51 / Proverbs 28 / Ezekiel 45 / 1 Tim. 3

Psalm 51:7,10 ~ Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow… Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Proverbs 28:13 ~ He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

Ezekiel 45:21 ~ In the first month, in the fourteenth day of the month, ye shall have the passover, a feast of seven days; unleavened bread shall be eaten.

1 Timothy 3:16 ~ And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

The hyssop that made David clean

Referred to Christ, our Paschal Lamb,

The promised Seed who was foreseen

Who would descend from Abraham.

Our great Passover Lamb was slain

That sinners might be justified.

The mystery is thus made plain:

To ransom rebels, Jesus died.

Messianic Mediator

Read:  Psalm 50 / Proverbs 27 / Ezekiel 44 / 1 Tim. 2

Psalm 50:5,14 ~ Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice… Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High.

Proverbs 27:11 ~ My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.

Ezekiel 44:27,28 ~ He… shall offer his sin offering, saith the Lord GOD. And it shall be unto them for an inheritance: I am their inheritance… I am their possession.

1 Timothy 2:5,6 ~ For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

We gather round our great Creator

To thank Him for His sacrifice.

Our Messianic Mediator

Has ransomed us at such a price!

As we consider this great treasure

That makes the Savior our Possession,

We ought to live to give Him pleasure

Since Jesus died for our transgression.

My Savior and My Story

Read:  Psalm 49 / Proverbs 26 / Ezekiel 43 / 1 Tim. 1

Psalm 49:5,15 ~ Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil?... But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave.

Proverbs 26:2,10 ~ The curse causeless shall not come… The great God that formed all things… rewardeth transgressors.

Ezekiel 43:2,3 ~ Behold, the glory of the God of Israel came… the earth shined with his glory… and I fell upon my face.

1 Timothy 1:14,15 ~ And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

Hebrews 9:27 ~And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

It seems astonishing to say

That there’s no cause for me to fear

As I approach the judgment day

When I shall with the Lord appear.

The prophets fell upon their face,

Yet I shall stand before His glory,

For Christ redeemed me by His grace!

This is my Savior and my story.

Messengers who Measure

Read:  Psalm 48 / Proverbs 25 / Ezekiel 42 / 2 Thes. 3

Psalm 48:9-13 ~ We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple… Walk about Zion… Mark ye well her bulwarks… that ye may tell it to the generation following.

Proverbs 25:12,13 ~ As an earring of gold… so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear… so is a faithful messenger.

Ezekiel 42:15 ~ Now when he had made an end of measuring the inner house, he brought me forth toward the gate whose prospect is toward the east, and measured it round about.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 ~ But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.

We search the depths of God’s great love

As we are guided by His Word

With God’s perspective, far above

What eyes have seen and ears have heard.

As messengers we hold the treasure

Of God’s prophetic truth unveiled

With faithfulness that we can measure:

His promises have never failed.

Kindred King

Read:  Psalm 47 / Proverbs 24 / Ezekiel 41 / 2 Thes. 2

Psalm 47:7 ~ For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.

Proverbs 24:14 ~ So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

Ezekiel 41:19 ~ The face of a man was toward the palm tree on the one side, and the face of a young lion toward the palm tree on the other side… made through all the house round about.

John 19:5,14 Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the Man!... Behold your King!

2 Thessalonians 2:14 ~ Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Let all creation be explored

With understanding as we sing:

Behold the Man, our Kindred Lord!

Behold the Lion, Christ our King!

We see His glory on display

Engraved on walls which tell His story

As Man and Lion which portray

The Gospel of our Savior’s glory.

Worship and Warn

Read:  Psalm 46 / Proverbs 23 / Ezekiel 40 / 2 Thes. 1

Psalm 46:10 ~ Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Proverbs 23:17,18 ~ Be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

Ezekiel 40:4 ~ Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall shew thee… declare all that thou seest.

2 Thessalonians 1:10 ~ When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

The Lord commands us to be still

And contemplate the end of things,

Since Christ is God and surely will

Be worshiped as the King of kings.

So let this be our declaration

That hearts may seek Him while they may

As we proclaim His great salvation

And also warn of judgment day.

Forever Faithful

Read:  Psalm 45 / Proverbs 22 / Ezekiel 39 / 1 Thes. 5

Psalm 45:6 ~ Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the scepter of thy kingdom is a right scepter.

Proverbs 22:19 ~ That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

Ezekiel 39:21 ~ And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.

1 Thessalonians 5:24 ~ Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

The scepter of the Lord is right;

He rules forever on His throne.

His counsel is our guiding light

That we may trust in Him alone.

Though mockers, as foretold, are scorning,

They shall discover they were wrong.

Our faithful God extends His warning

While yet His saving hand is strong.

Rapture and Return

Read:  Psalm 44 / Proverbs 21 / Ezekiel 38 / 1 Thes. 4

Psalm 44:7,8 ~ But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us. In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

Proverbs 21:31 ~ The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

Ezekiel 38:23 ~ Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the LORD.

1 Thessalonians 4:16 ~ For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.

We boast in Jesus Christ alone

As we fulfill His great commission.

We make His great salvation known

By which we have escaped perdition.

We know that Jesus shall return

To reign, as Scripture prophesies,

Yet for His rapture first we yearn

When those who sleep in Christ shall rise.

Tabernacle Truth

Read:  Psalm 43 / Proverbs 20 / Ezekiel 37 / 1 Thes. 3

Psalm 43:3 ~ Send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.

Proverbs 20:24 ~ Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

Ezekiel 37:27 ~ My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

1 Thessalonians 3:13 ~ To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

By Gospel truth we have been led

To view the cost we could not pay,

For Jesus suffered in our stead

Because there was no other way.

The tabernacle of the Lord

Is now with those He justified.

No wonder Jesus is adored

By His redeemed for whom He died!

To Comfort and To Cleanse

Read:  Psalm 42 / Proverbs 19 / Ezekiel 36 / 1 Thes. 2

Psalm 42:8 ~ Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

Proverbs 19:23 ~ The fear of the LORD tendeth to life… he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

Ezekiel 36:29 ~ I will… save you from all your uncleannesses.

1 Thessalonians 2:4 ~ But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

The lovingkindness of the Lord

Shall be our comfort all day long,

And in the night, our prayer outpoured

Is heard by God who gives His song.

The Lord is searching us within

To cleanse our hearts and our behavior

So we may be allowed to win

The souls we lead to Christ our Savior.

Refuge of His Reputation

Read:  Psalm 41 / Proverbs 18 / Ezekiel 35 / 1 Thes. 1

Psalm 41:11 ~ By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.

Proverbs 18:10 ~ The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Ezekiel 35:13 ~ Thus… ye have boasted against me, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard them.

1 Thessalonians 1:9,10 ~ Ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

By this I know God favors me

As He upholds me with His power:

He is my Refuge where I flee;

His reputation is my tower.

Though foes may yet be multiplied,

I’ll trust the safety Christ shall give,

For by His death I’m justified,

And by His life I also live.

Speaking to the Seeking

Read:  Psalm 40 / Proverbs 17 / Ezekiel 34 / Colossians 4

Psalm 40:5,9 ~ Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward… I have not refrained my lips, O LORD.

Proverbs 17:6 ~ Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.

Ezekiel 34:2 ~ Thus saith the Lord… to the shepherds… that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the flocks?

Colossians 4:5,6 ~ Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be always with grace… that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

The wondrous works that God has done

And gracious thoughts He has revealed

Regarding God’s beloved Son

I have declared and not concealed.

To children’s children I will speak

And thereby feed my Savior’s flocks.

I’ll call upon the lost to seek

The Lord while at the door He knocks.

Living for the Lord

Read:  Psalm 39 / Proverbs 16 / Ezekiel 33 /Colossians 3

Psalm 39:7 ~ Now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

Proverbs 16:6 ~ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

Ezekiel 33:10,11 ~ Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us… how should we then live?...  As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live.

Colossians 3:2 ~ Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

My hope is in the Lord alone

By whom iniquity was purged.

I’m living now to make Him known,

Persuading those whom I have urged.

I’ll tell them of my Savior’s love

Who died to rescue them from death.

I’ll set my heart on things above

As long as He shall give me breath.

Christ our Confidence

Read:  Psalm 38 / Proverbs 15 / Ezekiel 32 / Colossians 2

Psalm 38:22 ~ Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

Proverbs 15:11 ~ Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

Ezekiel 32:32 ~ I have caused my terror in the land of the living… with them that are slain… saith the Lord GOD.

Colossians 2:15 ~ Having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

The Lord of our salvation hears

The prayer of those who flee from terror.

The humble sinner wisely fears;

The proud shall perish in their error.

We triumph in the Lord’s defense

Who spoiled principalities.

In Christ we have our confidence

Who conquered all our enemies.

Momentary Multitude

Read:  Psalm 37 / Proverbs 14 / Ezekiel 31 / Colossians 1

Psalm 37:1,35,36 ~ Fret not… I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. Yet he passed away… I sought him, but he could not be found.

Proverbs 14:29 ~ He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

Ezekiel 31:18 ~ To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees… Yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth…  This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.

Colossians 1:17,18 ~ And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

The wicked, like a green bay tree,

Shall pass away and not be found.

Fret not, for soon they shall not be,

Though for a moment they are crowned.

Like Pharaoh and his multitude

Who had inspired confidence,

By judgment they shall be pursued,

And Christ shall have preeminence.

Egypt's Error

Read:  Psalm 36 / Proverbs 13 / Ezekiel 30 / Philippians 4

Psalm 36:9 ~ For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

Proverbs 13:14 ~ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

Ezekiel 30:19 ~ Thus will I execute judgments in Egypt: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

Philippians 4:13 ~ I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

God’s fountain filled with life and light

Is found by all who fear the Lord,

Where blinded eyes receive their sight

And strength from heaven is restored.

Though Egypt thought that they were strong

And that their chariots sufficed,

The Lord who judged them proved them wrong;

Triumphant strength is found in Christ.
