Being Born

"Lead me to the rock that is higher than I" (Psalm 61:2).  "A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, He directeth his way" (Proverbs 21:29).  "I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh… and they shall be My people, and I will be their God" (Ezekiel 11:19-20).  "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever" (1 Peter 1:23).

There was a height impossible
We could not hope to climb on earth
Until the Lord redeemed our soul
And gave to us a second birth.

The rebel hardens still his face,
Content at last to go astray.
The upright trusts in saving grace
As God directs him in His way.

To those who humbly yet will hear it,
The Lord extends His great salvation,
Wherein He gives us a new spirit,
Thus being born by transformation.

Lord, being born now by Your Word,
With harvest fields that are in view,
We preach the Gospel we have heard
Directing precious souls to You.

Bearing the Banner

"Thou hast given a banner to them that fear Thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth" (Psalm 60:4).  "Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?" (Proverbs 20:9).  "The voice of the Almighty God… speaketh" (Ezekiel 10:5).  "Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh… Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins" (James 5:8,20).

We're bearing the banner God gave
Declaring the truth of salvation,
For no one but Jesus can save
And rescue us from condemnation.

How vain is the boasting of many
Who think that their own heart is clean,
While God has declared there's not any
Who are without sin He has seen.

The truth is that Christ is our Savior;
To Him every knee shall soon bow.
The time to be seeking His favor
According to Scripture is NOW.

We're bearing the banner of grace,
O Lord, that's displaying Your love
That brought You to die in our place
To fit us for heaven above.

Delightful Defense

"Unto thee, O my Strength, will I sing: for God is my Defense, and the God of my mercy" (Psalm 59:17).  "The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil" (Proverbs 19:23).  "But He giveth more grace.  Wherefore He saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.  Submit yourselves therefore to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you" (James 4:6-8).

The Lord my God is my Defense,
I need not fear what man can do.
His mercy is my confidence,
And every word of God is true.

The fear of God has taught me well
To trust alone in Jesus Christ
Who came to rescue me from hell
And for my soul was sacrificed.

I'm resting in His saving grace
Which He has given to the humble
Who find in Him their Hiding Place
And restoration when they stumble.

I am no match against the foe
Who, as a lion, would devour,
Yet it's delightful, Lord, to know
That my defense is in Your power!

Lies of the Lost

"The wicked… go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies…  they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear, which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely" (Psalm 58:3-5).  "A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself" (Proverbs 18:2).  "They say, The LORD seeth us not; the LORD hath forsaken the earth" (Ezekiel 8:12).  "This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish… there is confusion and every evil work" (James 3:15,16).

The wicked will not be persuaded
To turn away from speaking lies
Which they have foolishly paraded
As they profess that they are wise.

Like deafened serpents never charmed,
They will not hear the Savior's warning
As many by their lies are harmed
Who hear and emulate their scorning.

They think the earth has been forsaken,
Imagining there's no Creator,
But they shall know they were mistaken
When they appear before Him later!

You've heard the lies, Lord, of the lost,
Confused by their imagination.
We plead with souls to count the cost
And hear the truth of Your salvation.

Finest Friend

"I will cry unto God Most High; unto God that performeth all things for me.  He shall send from heaven, and save me from the reproach of him that would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth His mercy and His truth" (Psalm 57:2,3).  "A Friend loveth at all times, and a Brother is born for adversity" (Proverbs 17:17).  "The end is come: it watcheth for thee; behold, it is come" (Ezekiel 7:6).  "Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the friend of God" (James 2:23).

I have a Friend who hears my cry;
He is my Captain of salvation
Exalted as the Lord most high,
To whom I make my supplication.

He saved me when I was a youth
When there was no one else who cared.
He sent His mercy and His truth
Which, on His cross, He had prepared.

It was for this my Lord was born
In times of great adversity.
He was the object of the scorn
Of wretched sinners just like me.

O Lord, I join with Abraham
Who knew You as his finest Friend,
Foreseeing You would be the Lamb
That God provided in the end!
