True Desire vs. Tragic Dissemblance

"The desire of the righteous shall be granted" (Proverbs 10:24).  "Ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it" (Jeremiah 42:20).  "Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear" (1 Peter 3:15).

The Lord examines our desire
Exposing falsehood in our heart
To purge dissemblance in the fire
That purifies our inward part.

Dissemblance is a tragedy
That makes a mockery of prayer
Engaging in hypocrisy
With self-deceit that brings despair!

If we would from dissemblance turn,
The Lord God must be sanctified
To rule our hearts that truly yearn
To live for Him who for us died.

Lord, purge dissemblance found in us
And grant desire that is true
To show in truth how marvelous
The blessings are we have in You.
