Helper of the Humble

"If it had not been the LORD who was on our side... Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul" (Psalm 124:2,4).  "In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death" (Proverbs 12:28).  "They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared" (Jeremiah 44:10).  "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time: casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you" (1 Peter 5:6,7). 

If God had not been on our side

We would have perished in the waves

Of judgment's storm and rising tide,

For no one else but Jesus saves.   

Behold the way of righteousness: 

There is no death upon its path! 

It is the pathway God will bless

With grace and truth instead of wrath! 

How sadly many are not humbled,

And even now they do not fear,

As in the darkness they have stumbled,

And judgment yet is drawing near!

O Helper of the humble soul,

We cast on You our every care,

Rejoicing in Your love so full  

And in the Gospel we declare!
