Pitiful Passengers

"The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore" (Psalm 121:8).  "A foolish woman... sitteth at the door of her house... to call PASSENGERS who go right on their ways... As for him that wanteth understanding... he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell" (Proverbs 9:13-18).  "Ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls" (1 Peter 2:25).

How awful those days were of doubt
Before we were rescued from sin!
Now God who is leading us out,
Preserves us and leads us back in.

How pitiful passengers are
Who hope for the best, yet in vain,
Like those who are packed in a car
That's led by the Auschwitz-bound train!

Though people may think all is well,
That doesn't reverse their direction!
The train without Christ leads to hell,
And NOW is the day for correction!

How pitiful, Lord, was our way
As passengers so unconcerned!
Like sheep we were going astray,
But now to Your side we're returned!
