Assured vs. Ashamed

"The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts" (Proverbs 17:3).  "Who is that shepherd that will stand before Me?" (Jeremiah 49:19).  "The world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever... And now, little children, abide in Him; that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His coming" (1 John 2:17,28).

As silver in the fining pot,
As gold refined within the fire,
The Lord now tries our every thought
And purifies our heart's desire.

Let every shepherd be assured
That, as we seek our Savior's face,
He purifies us by His Word
To stand before Him by His grace.

This world soon shall pass away
With all its vain and godless lust.
The things that never shall decay
Are in the Lord in whom we trust.

O Lord, we would not be ashamed,
But more assured as we discern
The Gospel truth we have proclaimed,
Anticipating Your return!
