Ebedmelech's Expectation

"I have longed for Thy salvation, O LORD" (Psalm 119:174).  "Now the Word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah... saying, Go and speak to Ebedmelech [Heb. Servant of the King] the Ethiopian, saying...  I will surely deliver thee... because thou hast put thy trust in Me, saith the LORD" (Jeremiah 39:15-18).  "Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh" (James 5:7,8).

We long to see the Lord's salvation,
For what else matters in the end?
In Christ we have our expectation,
And on His Word we can depend.

As Ebedmelech was assured
(Whose name means "Servant of the King"),
His expectation in God's Word
Would be fulfilled in everything.

As servants of our Lord and Savior,
May we be likewise confident
That Christ extends to us His favor
In every place that we are sent.

Lord, as Your promises were clear
When Ebedmelech was addressed,
We see Your coming drawing near,
And in that expectation rest.
