Wishing for Wisdom?

“God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast… asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge My people, over whom I have made thee king:  wisdom and knowledge are granted unto thee” (2 Chronicles 1:11,12).  “Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding… Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of His mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.  He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous” (Proverbs 2:3-7).

Just as God gave to King Solomon knowledge,
Our God is still granting us wisdom today.
People may spend half their lifetime in college
And never find wisdom that God gives away.

If only our hearts before God are sincere
In praying for wisdom we’re wishing to find,
God will give knowledge increasingly clear
In perilous times when the blind lead the blind.

The Lord takes delight in a heart that will yearn
To hear His instruction and do His command.
He searches for hearts that are willing to learn
To put into practice what they understand.

True wisdom is not just a knowledge of facts
Or data we store in our mind’s inventory;
It’s found in desire that eagerly acts
To follow God’s counsel and live for His glory.

O Lord, we give thanks for the wealth You impart
Of wisdom that flows from Your counsel of love.
So grant us a wise and obedient heart
To set our affection on things up above.
