Reason for the Ransom

“In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and His children shall have a place of refuge… The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death” (Proverbs 14:26,32).  “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

There is a reason Jesus came:
It wasn’t just to help us cope
So we could carry on the same,
But that we’d find in Him our hope.

There was a ransom to be paid,
And each of us was found a debtor.
We had good cause to be afraid!
Religion could not make us better.

In Christ there is a Refuge found:
He is our only Hiding Place.
We see His ransom thus abound:
Where sin abounds, there is more grace!

There was a ransom in God’s plan
That Christ determined He would pay
By dying as the Son of Man
To take iniquity away.

In Christ we have strong confidence,
Through all of life as well as death.
He is our Ransom, our Defense,
And Cause for praise while we have breath.

O Lord, we cannot comprehend
How great that ransom was You gave
To save us from the awful end
Of hell beyond our hopeless grave!

O Lord, You have conveyed the reason
That You descended from above
To pay our ransom in due season:
We were the object of Your love.

We ponder now salvation’s price,
This ransom that You could afford,
And thank You for Your sacrifice!
We worship You, O Christ our Lord.
