Dayspring in our Darkness

“With Thee is the fountain of life: in Thy light shall we see light” (Psalm 36:9).  “To give knowledge of salvation unto His people by the remission of their sins, through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the Dayspring from on high hath visited us, to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace” (Luke 1:78,79).

The Dayspring in our darkness came
To give us knowledge of salvation
Through Christ who bore our sin and shame
To thus remove our condemnation.

How marvelous is Dayspring’s light
Which manifests the fountainhead
Where grace is flowing in plain sight,
Though some prefer the dark instead.

How strangely some refuse to cease
To sit in darkness as they wait
For death to rob their hope of peace
When it forever is too late.

The Dayspring came by humble birth
Exactly as was prophesied.
Into the darkness of our earth
With life and light He testified.

The Dayspring gave His final breath
For souls whom He had come to save.
He took away the sting of death
And robbed the victory from the grave.

O Lord, our Dayspring from on high,
We thank You for Your wondrous love
Which prompted You to come and die,
That we may dwell with You above!
