Fretting Against vs. Fearful Agreement

“Take heed what ye do… not for man, but for the LORD… Now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God” (2 Chronicles 19:6,7).  “I will teach you the fear of the LORD… The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears are open unto their cry.  The face of the LORD is against them that do evil” (Psalm 34:9-16).  “The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD… The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil” (Proverbs 19:3,23).

Now what is the thing in agreement with God?
That is the question that rightly should rule.
Now what is the thing other men will applaud?
That is the question that reigns in the fool.

Agreement with God is the way to be wise;
By doing His pleasure we show godly fear.
The fool will assume that God closes His eyes,
And never consider that judgment draws near.

Our fearful agreement with God will discern
That God gives commandments for our own protection.
The one who now frets against God will soon learn
That God offered grace that was met with rejection.

The fear of the Lord will reveal His care:
His eyes are on all who will look for His favor.
His ears hear their cry; He will answer their prayer.
His face is against those rejecting the Savior.

Consider the blessings from God that abide
On those who will fear Him and to Him will yield:
There’s life more abundant, a heart satisfied,
And perfect protection, since He is our Shield.

O Lord, we give thanks that You keep us from fretting
As we live before You, now seeking Your face
In fearful agreement, Lord, never forgetting
The price that You paid to afford us this grace.
