Glances at Glory

"Afterward He brought me to the gate, even the gate that looketh toward the east: and behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and His voice was like a noise of many waters, and the earth shined with His glory…. And I fell upon my face…. And the glory of the LORD came into the house…. And behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house” (Ezekiel 43:1-5). “[Stephen], being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God” (Acts 7:2,55,56).

The glory of God once appearing to men,
Recorded in Scripture that we may now trace,
Allows us to glance at the sight they saw then,
That filled them with wonder, with worship, and grace.

Ezekiel fell on his face when he saw
The glory of God that approached from the east
Which filled then the temple and struck him with awe,
Beholding the glory of heaven’s High Priest.

Stephen was preaching with firmness and love
That much-needed sermon that none would applaud;
Then looking steadfastly to heaven above,
He saw in Christ Jesus the glory of God.

Lord, we would see Jesus our Lord and behold
The glory of God in His unequaled beauty!
So grant us that vision to make us more bold,
More moved out of worship, more faithful in duty.
