Flawed with Flattery

"They returned and inquired early after God. And they remembered that God was their Rock, and the high God their Redeemer. Nevertheless, they did flatter Him with their mouth, and they lied unto Him with their tongues. For their heart was not right with Him, neither were they steadfast in His covenant" (Psalm 78:34-37).

There is no use in seeking God
If we have not prepared our heart.
Our empty flattery is flawed
And doomed to fail from the start.

The Lord can see hypocrisy
Beneath the cloak of words we hear.
Our superficial flattery
He surely knows is insincere.

It's time to truly seek the Lord
And cast hypocrisy away,
That we may thereby be restored
As sheep no longer gone astray!

So help us, Lord, to seek Your face
With a humility that's true,
Now purged of flattery's disgrace,
That we may rightly worship You.
