Foundation and Fountain

"In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?... If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?" (Psalm 11:1,3).  "The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe" (Proverbs 18:10).  "When the tempter came to Him... He answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:3,4).

The world's warning is all wrong
Which says to flee now as a bird,
As if our refuge isn't strong
In the foundation of God's Word.

We flee not to a crumbling mountain,
But to the tower of God's name
And find His Word to be a fountain
Of saving power that we claim.

As when the tempter came to Christ
And by the Word of God was smitten,
This same foundation has sufficed
To save us, knowing "It is written."

Lord, thank for this strong foundation
And fountain of Your Word You give
By which we rest in Your salvation
And daily by Your counsel live.
