Proving and Prompting our Praise

"Praise ye the LORD… according to His excellent greatness… Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD" (Psalm 150:1,2,6).  "A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, He directeth his way" (Proverbs 21:29).  "Obey My voice, and I will be your God… but they hearkened not unto Me… but hardened their neck" (Jeremiah 7:23,24).  "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves.  Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?" (2 Corinthians 13:5).

We don't expect a corpse to sing,
For there's no life if there's no breath,
And hardened hearts can never bring
True praise until they're saved from death.

The wicked hardens still his face,
But God directs His people's way.
The sinner whom He saves by grace
Has faith that prompts him to obey.

We all need self-examination
To realize if we are saved.
We'll see the fruit of our salvation
Displayed in how we have behaved.

O Lord, we see the great delusion
Of darkness in these latter days!
Your Word exposes the confusion
With light that proves and prompts our praise.
