"God is love.... We love Him, because He first loved us" (1 John 4:8,19).
Knowing the reason we really love God
Does not offer language that flatters,
For hearts that are sinful are hopelessly flawed;
That He first loved us is what matters!
Yes, this is the reason for love to our Lord:
That He loved us first in our sin,
And only His great love could ever afford
A cause for our love to begin.
O Lord, we are debtors to infinite Love,
That saved us by grace You impart!
How can we but set our affections above
And love You with all of our heart?
