Record of Redemption

"They that trust in their wealth.... none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: for the redemption of their soul is precious.... But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave; for He shall receive me" (Psalm 49:6-15). "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and He that hath not the Son of God hath not life" (1 John 5:11,12).

The record is clear with respect to redemption:
We don't have the means for redeeming our brother
Or paying our ransom; there is no exemption:
Redemption is precious and comes from Another!

How fearful it is when we first realize
We're void of the power to rescue our soul!
Praise God for His prompting that we may wise
By trusting the Lord who redeems us in full!

Praise God for the riches in Christ that He gave,
Above all the wealth that this earth could afford,
With power to ransom our soul from the grave
When we have received Him as Savior and Lord.

O Lord, we give thanks that the battle is won
By Christ our Redeemer, victorious in strife!
And this is the record: when we have Your Son,
We have Your eternal redemption and life!

p.s. Today marks 38 years since that fearful and wonderful night in Yokosuka, Japan, on the USS Midway. "Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved! How precious did that grace appear, the hour I first believed!"
