Profiting by Prophecy

"Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, Thou shalt purge them away" (Psalm 65:3).  "Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death... He that winneth souls is wise" (Proverbs 11:4,30). "Ye... commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not" (Amos 2:12).  "A certain man made a great supper, and... said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled" (Luke 14:16,23).

We profit from the prophecies
Preserved by God for us today
Regarding our iniquities
Which would, through Christ, be purged away.

But riches profit not at all
Which neither rescue souls from wrath,
Nor ransom sinners from the fall,
Nor show to us salvation's path.

The prophets from the Lord were brought
To profit those whom God would win,
But often were commanded not
To prophesy regarding sin.

Lord, send us forth to clearly tell
The lost of Your amazing grace
And profit those whom we compel
With prophecy's convincing case.
