Forsaken Favor

"God is the Judge: He putteth down one, and setteth up another" (Psalm 75:7).  "A wicked man hardeneth his face... Safety is of the LORD" (Proverbs 21:29,31).  "They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy... Salvation is of the LORD" (Jonah 2:8,9).  "All things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the Psalms concerning Me... that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations" (Luke 24:44,47).

Our God is Judge as well as Savior;
His justice must be satisfied.
He bore our sins to grant us favor;
It was for this Christ Jesus died.

There is no other hiding place;
In Christ alone is safety found.
The favor of His truth and grace
Shall over sin much more abound.

How sadly many are mistaken
Who spurn the grace and truth of God,
For thus their mercy is forsaken,
Exchanged for lies that fools applaud.

O Lord, how fearful is the thought:
Your favor is forsaken still
For vanities that come to naught
And harden hearts against Your will!
