Praying for Princes

“Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.  His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.  Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:  which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth forever” (Psalm 146:3-6).  “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled” (Matthew 5:18).

Our princes may promise to do many things,
But they’re only human and subject to death.
We should not be trusting in princes or kings,
But rather in God who has granted them breath.

How happy are they who have trusted in God,
The Maker of heaven, the earth, and the sea!
His promise is perfect; not one word is flawed,
For He lives forever to keep His decree.

We ought to be praying that princes today
Will trust in the Lord and be led by His hand,
For God has commanded His people to pray
For those in authority over our land.

We’re praying for princes whom God has instated,
Whose bodies, like ours, will return to the dust,
Yet God will not die and has never negated
The blessings He promised IF “In God We Trust”.

Nations, like princes, will rise and will fall,
But princes, unlike them, will stand before God.
Pray that our princes will answer God’s call
To lead by His counsel, though none may applaud.

O Lord, grant us princes who follow Your will
In all that You prompt them to say and to do.
Lord, this is the prayer that we pray You’ll fulfill,
Not only in princes, but in our hearts too.
