Divinely Divided

“The LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish” (Psalm 1:6).  “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.  For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.  And a man's foes shall be they of his own household” (Matthew 10:34-36).

The whole of humanity needed a Savior,
For no one was righteous, no, not even one.
Rebellion corrupted our thought and behavior;
The Lord looked from heaven, and we were undone.

But God by His wonderful grace has provided
Redemption and pardon through Jesus our Lord,
And thus by our choice we’re Divinely divided
As lost or as saved by the truth of His sword.

The choice now before us is death or it’s life:
The sword thus divides us by our own volition.
No wonder such households experience strife:
The lost are convicted by their own perdition!

And so every person is casting their vote;
There’s no middle ground:  it is light or it’s dark.
We’re on the Titanic, or in a life boat;
We’re lost in the flood, or we’re in Noah’s ark.

O Lord, we give thanks for the choice that You gave
When judgment was coming without an exemption.
How great was Your cost to divide and to save
The souls who have trusted in You for redemption!

We thank You, O Lord, that for sinners You died,
For You are not willing that any should perish.
So use us to draw even more to Your side,
Divinely divided with souls whom You cherish.
