Fit to Fight

“All these, the sons of JEDIAEL (Heb. “Knowing God”)… mighty men of valor, were… fit to go out for war and battle” (1 Chronicles 7:11).  “One generation shall praise Thy works to another, and shall declare Thy mighty acts… He also will hear their cry, and will save them” (Psalm 145:4,19).  “He that winneth souls is wise” (Proverbs 11:30).  “It is written… It is written again… Get thee hence, Satan, for it is written” (Matthew 4:4,7,10).

Everyone who knows the Lord
Should thus be armed and fit to fight:
The Word of God, His Spirit’s sword,
Will put the enemy to flight!

The battle rages every day;
The devil never takes vacation,
Yet God has fit us to display
The banner of His great salvation.

As generations rise with praise
To tell another of God’s acts,
The Lord has charged us so to raise
Our children with the Scripture’s facts.

The enemy yet hopes to steal,
To kill, and to destroy our youth.
Awake!  The battle here is real!
We’re called to arm them with the truth!

And so we teach our children why
They need to trust the Savior now.
The Lord will also hear their cry
And save them as they humbly bow.

The Word of God enlightens eyes,
And fits a soul with heaven’s power,
So he that wins a soul is wise,
And thus we may redeem each hour!

We fit ourselves with evidence
That God provides in prophecy.
How clear, as well, is God’s defense
In science and in history!

Yes, “it is written,” Jesus said,
And thus He showed how much we need
The words of God, not only bread,
Which from His mouth to us proceed.

O Lord, You’ve shown to us that scene
With Satan in the desert smitten.
You demonstrated what You mean
By holding fast to “It is written.”

Lord, in these latter days of sin,
It’s by Your Word we understand
That we are fit to fight and win,
Since You uphold us with Your hand.
