Beauty Bound

“David… said unto them, If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be knit unto you… The captains… said, Thine are we, David, and on thy side…Men that had understanding of the times… were not of double heart” (1 Chronicles 12:17-33).  Then saith He unto His disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers into His harvest” (Matthew 9:37,38).

There was a beauty that was found
When David’s men came to his side:
Beyond mere duty they were bound,
For by affection they were tied.

The helpers whom the Lord would bring
Would not be of a double heart.
The Lord chose David as His king,
And helpers came to do their part.

And so it is in this our day,
For workers in God’s harvest field:
The Lord commands us each to pray
That hearts to Him will truly yield.

We find our hearts to His are knit
As we are praying as we’re told.
Unless we pray, we are unfit,
For otherwise are hearts are cold.

We serve the King, our risen Savior,
Who for our souls was sacrificed.
It is for love we ought to labor
With willing hearts for Jesus Christ!

Like David’s understanding men,
Lord, give us wisdom like theirs too,
To serve You till You come again,
Though workers in Your field be few.

O Lord, You know that we are frail,
And to half-heartedness inclined,
But You have promised to prevail,
And YOU don’t have a double mind!

Our hearts are bound by more than duty:
We’re knit together by Your grace.
Lord, fix our gaze upon Your beauty
Unveiled as we seek Your face.
