Musing on the Multitudes

Who am I, O LORD God…that Thou hast brought me hitherto?” (1 Chronicles 17:16).  “Bless the LORD, O my SOUL, and forget not all His benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases” (Psalm 103:2,3).  And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and He healed their sick… all that were diseased… were made perfectly whole” (Matthew 14:14,36).

When Jesus saw the multitude
His heart was moved with love.
What was it that our Savior viewed
That brought Him from above?

What prompted Him to leave the throne
In heaven’s lofty place,
To suffer on the cross alone
To thus extend His grace?

What value did our Savior see
In souls that went astray
That made Him go to Calvary
To wash our sins away?

The multitudes who sought Him not,
He came to seek and save.
What wondrous love is this that brought
Our ransom that He gave?

O Lord, You valued every soul
That ever walked this earth.
You tasted death to make us whole,
And thus we see our worth!

We thank You for such love revealed,
O Lord, our dearest Friend!
The price You paid by which we’re healed
We scarcely comprehend!

We gather with adoring ranks,
Redeemed, no longer cursed,
With multitudes to give You thanks
That You, Lord, loved us first.
