Hope we Hold

“The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish” (Proverbs 10:28).  “We should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;  looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us” (Titus 2:12-14).

How happy is the hope we hold!
How great the promise is we cherish!
Christ will come, as He foretold!
Alas!  The sinner’s hope shall perish.

The hope we hold transforms behavior:
It calls us to live righteously,
To look for Christ, our God and Savior,
And weigh things by eternity.

The hope we hold is in the One
Who came as prophets said He would.
God sent redemption by His Son,
Who gave Himself!  The Lord is good!

O Lord, we’re sure that You’ll appear,
In spite of those who mock Your claim.
For as that day is drawing near,
Our hope is anchored in Your name.
