Dreaded Dullness

“The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein” (Psalm 111:2).  “Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?” (Proverbs 17:16).  “We have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are DULL of hearing” (Hebrews 5:11).

The works of the Lord are great above measure;
His wisdom displayed is so full,
Sought out by all them who therein have pleasure,
Ignored by the heart that is dull.

How many things would the Lord yet reveal
If we showed an interest today?
How many plagues of the soul would He heal
If we were prepared to obey?

O Lord, there are so many things we should know,
Withheld for our lack of concern,
That You, in Your patience, are waiting to show
Until we are ready to learn.

Lord, hasten Your work now to heal our dullness,
Lest we spend our days in distraction,
That You may unveil yet more of Your fullness
And waken our hearts with attraction.
