Discerning His Displeasure

“The thing that David had done displeased the LORD” (2 Samuel 11:27).  “For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and He pondereth all his goings” (Proverbs 5:21).

King David surely should have known
The thing that brought the Lord displeasure.
The Word of God had clearly shown
The line of truth by which to measure.

The thing that darkened David’s heart
Was lust unchecked by truth he’d learned.
Beware!  We likewise may depart
From righteousness we once discerned.

O Lord, our ways are in Your view,
So we would flee from sin and shame,
Committed to discern and do
The things that glorify Your name.
