Savior vs. Serpent

"Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?.... And the LORD God said unto the serpent.... I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel" (Genesis 3:1-15). "Happy is he... whose hope is in the LORD his God... which keepeth truth forever" (Psalm 146:5,6).

The subtle serpent in the garden
Had done his very worst
By prompting hearts to doubt, then harden,
And then at last be cursed.

And "hath God said?" we hear him say;
His wiles are the same
As in the past, and so today
Deception is his aim.

But God has claimed the victory!
We rest in what God said:
He promised to send enmity
To bruise the serpent's head!

Rejoice! Our Lord has come to earth
Through Christ, the woman's Seed!
Our Savior came by virgin birth
And did as God decreed!

And has God said? Indeed He did!
He keeps His truth forever!
In Christ our Savior we are hid,
And none from Him can sever!

We thank You, Lord, for what You've done
To fight for us and win
By bruising Satan through Your Son,
Who rescued us from sin.

We thank You, Lord, as we recall
That Christ was bruised as well,
To thereby lift us from our fall
And ransom us from hell.
