Nearness of Noah

"Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.... and Noah walked with God.... Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he" (Genesis 6:8,9,22). "Now therefore hearken unto Me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep My ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.... For whoso findeth Me findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD. But he that sinneth against Me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate Me love death" (Proverbs 8:32-36).

The nearness of Noah, the Scriptures record,
Protected his children and moved him with fear.
For Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord,
Obeying instruction as judgment drew near.

The nearness of Noah was seen as he walked,
Who found his contentment in doing God's pleasure.
The Word of the Lord could be heard as he talked,
In preaching the Gospel and showing its treasure.

The nearness of Noah amid all the strife
Provided a refuge for him and his seven:
His three sons, their wives, and also his wife
Were blest in the favor extended from heaven.

O Lord, we give thanks for Your gracious instruction
Preserved in the record of Noah we trace!
We live in a world that faces destruction:
Yet by his example we also find grace!
