Earnest Evangelist

"Be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day long, for surely there is an end, and thine expectation shall not be cut off" (Proverbs 23:17,18). "Preach the Word.... Do the work of an evangelist.... For the time will come when they shall not endure sound doctrine" (2 Timothy 4:2-5).

Be sure of this: there is an end;
The finish line is not far off.
So preach the Word; its truths defend,
Though many, as foretold, will scoff.

Be earnest in eternal things,
And serve the Lord with godly fear.
Exalt the Lord, the King of kings,
Assured that His return draws near.

Though souls may choose to not endure
The Gospel truth that saves the soul,
Still every word of God is pure,
And all are held accountable.

O Lord, we fix our eyes on You,
And thank You for the expectation
That all Your promises are true
Which yet extend Your great salvation.

We thank You, Lord, that we may be
Evangelists with earnest hearts,
Who preach the truth that makes us free
And everlasting life imparts.
