Allegory of the Ark

"In the selfsame day entered Noah... and they that went in... as God had commanded him: and the Lord shut him in.... and the waters increased, and bare up this ark, and it was lift up above the earth" (Genesis 7:13-17). "Wisdom hath builded her house.... She crieth upon the highest places of the city, Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither.... Forsake the foolish, and live" (Proverbs 9:1-6). "For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven... and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord" (1 Thessalonians 4:16,17).

Our God arranges history
In patterns that unfold
His allegories that we see
Of future things foretold.

We see that this surely plain
In Noah's ark that rose
Above the earth by flood and rain
Escaping judgment's woes.

There is a day not far ahead
When Christ will come again
With those he raises from the dead,
And we shall be changed then.

And in the twinkling of an eye
We'll meet them in the air,
As once the ark was lifted high
With all His chosen there.

O Lord, by faith we see that day
Is surely drawing near
When You shall catch Your own away
And lift us far from here.

Until that day of expectation
With judgment clouds so dark,
We would extend Your invitation
In Christ, as in the ark!
