Paul's Pause

"I will pour out My Spirit unto you, I will make known My words unto you" (Proverbs 1:23). "They [Paul and Silas]... were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the Word in Asia... they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.... And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: there stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him saying, Come over to Macedonia, and help us.... The Lord had called us for to preach the Gospel unto them" (Acts 16:6-10).

There is a calling by God's Spirit
That may not fit our plan.
Those with ears to hear will hear it;
It does not come from man.

Paul and Silas had arranged
To preach where they intended,
But God the Holy Spirit changed
Their plans they then amended.

The Spirit of the Lord forbade
The course of their decision,
But then a Macedonian prayed:
"Come, help us!" in Paul's vision.

O Lord, we know there is a cause
Much greater than our own,
So teach us how to rightly pause
Until Your will is shown.
