Watching our Ways

"Then rose up Zerubbabel... and Jeshua... and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them. At that time came to them... companions, and said... Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?.... What are the names of the men that make this building? But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease" (Ezra 5:2-5). "I have kept Thy precepts and Thy testimonies: for all my ways are before Thee" (Psalm 119:168).

The eye of our God is upon us today
To cause us to build with His peace.
Who in the world can stand in our way
If God has not told us to cease?

A sparrow shall never be cast to the ground,
That's hidden from God's watching eyes,
Nor ever on earth was an empire found
Without God's permission to rise.

All of our ways, and not merely our deeds,
Before God are thoroughly known.
He calls us to pray, though He knows all our needs,
That we may draw near to His throne.

It's as in the days when the prophets proclaimed
The commandment of God to rebuild,
And workers arose, unafraid, unashamed,
Determined to do what God willed.

Knowing Your eye is upon us, O Lord,
Now teach us to live by this measure:
To seek everyday to achieve the reward
Of heartily doing Your pleasure.
