Conscience with Confidence

"And herein to I exercise myself to have always a conscience void of offence toward God and toward men" (Acts 24:16).

If we would live without offence
Toward God and then to men,
Let's give to God the preference,
And clear our conscience then.

That doesn't mean that we ignore
What others may desire,
But God in all things comes before
What others may require.

Though others surely will despise
This standard we present,
As long as God esteems it wise,
We can be confident.

O Lord, we thank You for the peace
In living for Your pleasure.
So may all other standards cease
That do not meet this measure.
