Reason for the Ransom

"Because there is wrath, beware lest He take thee away with His stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver thee" (Job 36:18). "He shall deliver the needy when he crieth… and shall save the souls of the needy" (Psalm 72:12,13).  "A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies" (Proverbs 14:25).  "The publican… smote upon his breast, saying, God, be merciful to me a sinner.  I tell you, this man went down to his house justified… for… he that humbleth himself shall be exalted " (Luke 18:13,14).

Because there is sin, there's a cost;

God's wrath for transgression was weighed,

But Christ gave Himself for the lost,

And all of our ransom He paid!     

Let sinners consider their need

And cry out to God for salvation,  

Though scorners today take no heed

To warnings about condemnation. 

The Lord hears the cry of the humble,

But those who are proud He resists. 

Let mockers beware lest they stumble,

For wrath, though they scorn, still exists! 

Ah Lord, now the reason is found

That You paid the ransom so high:

Your love for our souls knew no bound

That brought You from heaven to die!
