Surest Shields

"The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: He is greatly exalted" (Psalm 47:9).  "My son, give Me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe My ways" (Proverbs 23:26).  "Ye are the sons of the living God.  Then shall the children... be gathered together, and appoint themselves one Head" (Hosea 1:10).  "The Stone which the builders rejected is become the Head of the Corner" (Mark 12:10). 

The shields of the earth belong

To Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. 

By His protection we are strong

As we are sheltered by His favor. 

The surest shields we can raise

Are found in hearts that will surrender,

Observing thus our Savior's ways

And trusting Him as our Defender. 

We are God's sons by second birth,

And He is our appointed Head. 

He owns the shields of the earth,

And by Him we are safely led. 

O Lord, the surest shields known

In earth or heaven's heights above

Are found in You, our Corner Stone,

Secured by Your redeeming love.
