Searching our Secrets

"If we have forgotten the name of our God... Shall not God search this out?  For He knoweth the secrets of the heart" (Psalm 44:20,21).  "The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts" (Proverbs 20:27).  "I will shew thee that which is noted in the Scripture of truth" (Daniel 10:21).  "He asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?  But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest" (Mark 9:33,34).

If we have forgotten to give
The glory to God in our hearts,
God searches the way that we live,
Revealing our most inward parts.

The Scripture of truth is His light
Exploring our spirit and soul,
Discerning the wrong and the right,
Correcting and making us whole.

As when His disciples disputed
Which one should be greatest of all,
Our secrets by Christ are refuted,
So pride may not cause us to fall.

O Lord, search our secrets within,
And spare us as we seek Your face
From hearts that are harboring sin,
That we may be cleansed by Your grace.
