Persuading the Perishing

“Riches profit not in the day of wrath… When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth” (Proverbs 11:4,7).  “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men… as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:11,20).

The gate is wide, the way is broad,
That leads a soul to condemnation.
The fool who says there is no God
Shall perish with his expectation!

Be sure, in hell there’s no debate
To see if there is such a place.
The Gospel sinners choose to hate
Is absent there, as is God’s grace.

The day approaches for us all
When death shall seal then our choice.
O sinner, hear the Savior call!
The time is NOW to heed His voice!

There surely is no greater error
Than turning Jesus Christ away
Who died to save us from the terror
Of hopelessness on judgment day!

The offer of our Lord is made
To every soul by sin defiled,
As by this Gospel we persuade
The sinner to be reconciled.

O Lord, we thank You for Your love
For souls which surely would have perished,
For which You left Your throne above
To save forever those You cherished!

Considering salvation’s cost,
With souls now perishing in view,
Lord, show us how to reach the lost,
Persuading them to turn to You!
