Glory in the Glass

“The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places “ (2 Samuel 1:19).  “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10).  “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.  But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:17,18).

Behold the beauty now so plain
Upon the mount of Israel:
The Lamb of God for us is slain
To thus redeem our souls from hell!

Behold the death of Christ appointed
To purge away our sins as dross.
How beautiful is God’s Anointed,
Who gave Himself upon the cross!

His glory is apparent here
When wisdom has its true beginning:
Our eyes are opened when we fear
The consequences of our sinning!

The knowledge of God’s holiness
Arrests the one who understands
That God must judge those who transgress
The standard that His Law demands.

There is no other place hide
But in our Lord, to whom we run.
In Him alone we’re justified.
There is none righteous; no, not one.

His glory shall before us pass,
And He shall grant us liberty
As we behold, as in a glass,
Our Savior’s image that we see!

O Lord, beholding Your reflection,
As in a glass within Your Word,
We’re changed in light of Your perfection,
As by Your Spirit we are stirred!
