The Hanging of Haman

"So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified" (Esther 7:10). "The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.... The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish" (Proverbs 10:24,28). "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good" (Romans 12:21).

The hanging of Haman is one illustration
Whereby it should be understood
That God makes a way in our tribulation
To overcome evil with good.

Thus we are taught, and commanded as well,
To overcome evil that's known,
Assured by our Lord that the forces of hell
Shall never unsettle His throne.

The fear of the wicked, unless they will turn,
Shall surely upon them descend.
The hanging of Haman should help us discern
The judgment of God in the end.

So overcome evil with good, we are told;
This is God's mandate today.
Trusting the Lord, in His time we'll behold
How God drives the wicked away.

Teach us, O Lord, the way to withstand
The evil each day that we face,
Prevailing with good by Your sovereign hand
Upholding our souls by Your grace.
