Uttering the Unspeakable

"I will worship toward Thy holy temple and praise Thy name for Thy lovingkindness and for Thy truth, for Thou hast magnified Thy Word above all Thy name" (Psalm 138:2). "Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable Gift" (2 Corinthians 9:15).

How shall we begin to utter
The praise of Christ our Lord who came?
Human words just seem to clutter
The sweet perfections of His name!

Yet that which is unspeakable
The Word of God has uttered well:
For grace and truth in Christ were full,
The Word made flesh with us to dwell!

A name conveys a reputation
Based on things already done;
The Word of God declares salvation
Eternal in His glorious Son!

The Word of God has uttered now
The things of Christ we look toward
When every knee to Him shall bow
And every tongue will call Him Lord.

God has magnified His Word
Beyond the things of history.
O what glorious things we've heard
Of Zion in eternity!

Lord, we thank You for the Gift
That human words could not convey.
Accept the worship that we lift
With speechless love to You today.
